FAQs
Masonry is a form of construction using various natural or artificial rock-based products, such as stone, brick, or concrete. The key to masonry is that building materials are bound together using mortar. The term masonry can be applied to the craft itself or to the finished product. Masonry is included in many of the projects we do, in almost all scenarios that you see stonework on one of our projects, it is a form of masonry.
Cultured stone is a man-made stone that comes in all sorts of styles and colors. It is made from lightweight concrete products and can be a beautiful finish to any of your stone projects. Natural stone comes in many varieties and is more challenging to work with but the results cannot be matched.
Stone Veneer is just that - a stone veneer covering the structural portion of a wall, pillar, or fireplace. Veneer is typically cut to a 2-inch thick piece so that mortar can be used to adhere it to a flat surface, typically cement board or a cinderblock wall. Mortar is then typically used between stones to finish off or a dry stack veneer can be used where no mortar is installed between the stone.
Yes and No. There are many manufactured products that are created to replicate natural stone. Technology has come a long way and some of the manufactured stone options highly resemble a natural product at a better price point, but it is still hard to beat the look of a natural stone veneer.

Typically yes. When installing masonry work we are working with mortar, and if there is any movement then the mortar will crack and break. So we will either install directly on a deck (which has a footer foundation) or build from the ground up with a cinder block foundation down to frost level to help eliminate movement and avoid any cracking or damaging
