Located in Yates County, NY, Dresden is a small town with a population of around 300 residents. It is situated on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake , and enjoys a scenic location with stunning lake views and numerous vineyards. It is known for its peaceful, rural atmosphere, and offers a tranquil getaway for visitors looking to find an escape from the city. Dresden is conveniently located about 60 miles southeast of Rochester, making it accessible for day trips or weekends.
The history of Dresden dates back to the early 19th century, when European settler first began to populate the area. The town was originally named “North Hector” but the name was changed to Dresden in 1825. The community flourished as a transportation hub in the 19th century, due to its strategic location on Seneca Lake. Because of this, steamboats played a significant role in the town’s history and development, carrying passengers and goods between Dresden and other lakeside communities.
Over time Dresden developed into a small agricultural town with farming and vineyards being an integral part of the local economy. Today it preserves its rich history and rural charm.
