Canandaigua City, New York is a city in Ontario County New York, and is the county seat. It was founded in the mid-1800s near the historic indigenous village of Ganandogan. It was an important railroad stop and a dock for steamboats that operated on the late. It is surrounded by the Town of Canandaigua, a town at the North end of the Canandaigua Lake. The town was settled in 1789 and became an official town in 1791.
