King of Prussia is a census-designated place considered to be the edge of Philadelphia. The area was named after the King of Prussia Inn which was originally built as a cottage in 1719 by a Quaker family. It was converted into an inn in 1769 and had steady business as it was about a day's journey from Philadelphia. It was almost destroyed when the state wanted to expand US Route 202. Thankfully, the tragedy was avoided due to the advocating of preservationists.
