Choose the features for your perfect porch in Cumberland County
Open Porch
The standard porch with a roof and open sides. The roof provides protection from direct sunlight, rain, and other types of precipitation. The walls are open allowing easy access to the outdoors.
Screened-in Porch
Protect yourself from bugs and bees while still enjoying the fresh breeze. Screens can be made from lightweight fiberglass mesh to heavier metal for added security.
Enclosed Porch
Also referred to as “sun rooms,” enclosed porches provide a year-round living space. Enclosed porches are appealing since they can serve as a year-round living space.
Front Porch
A front porch is the most traditional type of porch. It’s popular with homeowners wanting to create a welcoming area for guests. It remains a popular choice for both new home builds and remodeling projects.
Portico
Elevate your home's entrance with a grand portico, a timeless addition that adds curb appeal and style. It provides shelter from the elements, creating a shaded and inviting entryway.
Retractable Porch
Create a year-round living area with walls or garage doors that can be opened. When it is cold, you can close the doors or walls and bring in a heater. And when it is warm, you can open everything up and enjoy the beautiful spring air or summer breeze.

The Cumberland area was originally settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the 1730s. The early settlers were mainly farmers. Much of the area is still comprised of rich farmland today.
In 1750 Cumberland County was officially created from Lancaster County and named for Cumberland, England. Carlisle and Shippensburg are the oldest towns in the county, each with a unique history all its own. Another notable historic site in Cumberland County is the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, located near Shippensburg. It was built by original settlers in 1738 and still stands today, one of the oldest houses of worship in central PA.
Today, Cumberland County covers 550 square miles and is home to some 255,000 people. It is also home to several colleges, including the U.S. Army War College.
Cumberland has two military operation facilities as well: the Carlisle Barracks/U.S. Army War College and the Naval Support Station in Mechanicsburg.
The Cumberland County homepage describes the county like this:
Named for Cumberland, England and founded on January 27, 1750, Cumberland County is located in South Central Pennsylvania. The County landscape is comprised of urban communities and rich farmland. It spans 555 square miles, with more than 250,000 residents living in its 33 municipalities. Within a two hour drive or less of Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington and within a ten hour drive of over 50% of the population of the U.S., the County is home to six colleges and universities including the US Army War College, Shippensburg University, Dickinson College, Penn State Dickinson School of Law, Central Pennsylvania College and Messiah College
